La seguente recensione del cavo Supreme HDMI MKII è il frutto dell’iniziativa “Ricable Review”. Ricable Review è il programma ideato da Ricable, nato per raccogliere feedback dagli audiofili, al fine di portare a un continuo miglioramento dei prodotti presenti nel catalogo. Ultimo ma non meno importante, coloro che aderiscono al programma ricevono a casa un attestato, con lo scopo di attestare come il cliente sia entrato a tutti gli effetti a fare parte della “famiglia Ricable”.
Il seguente Feedback è stato realizzato sulla base di un questionario predefinito a cui l’utente ha restituito le proprie impressioni, in maniera completamente libera. Ringraziamo Michal per il tempo che ci ha dedicato.
As I was exploring the ways how to fine-tune my existing chain for both speakers and headphones, I was quite confident the source part is my weakest point. Since I stream Hi-Res audio from Apple Music and there are literally no dedicated Hi-Fi streamers with built-in native Apple Music service, I was just using Apple iPad Pro or iPhone to connect with my DAC via USB cable.
This was still fine as I consider my DAC to be of good quality, but still, I was reading in different places that especially in my case, I might greatly benefit from the inclusion of Digital-To-Digital Conversion interface to be placed between my iPad and the DAC. This is mainly to clean the input from iPad and convert it to I²S digital format, which is supposed to be the best possible input format for the DAC.
So, as I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the DDC, this is where my chase for a dedicated I²S HDMI cable started. I know I could use literally any available standard HDMI cable for this purpose and many would say that this is sufficient (as this is only digital transport, so it either works or not but nothing in between). Nevertheless, I didn’t want to end up with some generic HDMI cable in my system, considering the fact I already invested quite heavily in the standalone system components. At the same time, I was not prepared to pay hundreds of Euros for such a dedicated I²S cable. That was simply too unreal for me to see some benefits in doing so.
It was only by accident that I found the Ricable offering. It was briefly mentioned by an Italian enthusiast in a dedicated audio forum. This is where I started to look at Ricable HDMI offering in detail and then quickly confirmed with Ricable support team that the Supreme HDMI MKII might be just the right cable for me.
and aesthetics of the product?
So I ordered the Supreme HDMI MKII cable in lenght of 1 meter (in case of I²S shorter is better). Once it arrived, straight out of the box the quality of the cable construction was obvious. This is definitely not your regular HDMI cable. It feels solid, it is also quite nice at the same time.
Even if none of my cables is blue, this dark blue variant blends very good with the rest. It is also quite a thick cable, so some spacing requirements are needed, but nothing overly over the top. If you have a clearance of 7-8cm from the wall, you shall be totally fine.
The connectors look premium and nothing on the cable says it shall break anytime soon.
Since the DDC unit was new to me, it was not so easy to evaluate the sound advantages of the cable, as I didn’t have any direct comparisons handy. But I did test to connect the DDC to DAC via the standard generic HDMI cable (not exactly cheap though, it’s BenQ branded cable which is supposed to be of some good quality) and I do feel that the music was not the same as with the Supreme HDMI MKII. I played my usual playlist I always use when evaluating new components in my system.
listening impressions?
The differences were subtle, yet for me still noticeable. I didn’t feel comfortable preferring the generic cable for any test songs that I know very well and which I tried to compare here. I mostly listen to blues, country rock, and acoustic music with plenty of resolution across the frequency spectrum.
If I should pick one dominant attribute, then especially the vocals became clearer and more detailed with the Supreme MKII. But as already said, there was no area whare the Supreme HDMI MKII would perform worse than the standard HDMI cable.
Plus there is an obvious aesthetic advantage for the Ricable HDMI. Taking into consideration the price of the Supreme MKII, it’s really a no-brainer for me.
Your conclusions.
The Supreme HDMI MKII is a great HDMI cable when used as I²S digital interconnect. I didn’t test any video capabilities as I don’t need them at all. But as far as the sound is in talk, there is nothing I could object about this cable. Even the HDMI pins configuration is as expected (by Denafrips manufacturer) and the pairing configuration between Denafrips Iris 12th and Denafrips Pontus II was as easy as it gets (Mode 0 is the right one to choose on the Pontus II).
As it stands, it might even cost you less than the usual “4K HDMI” cable you will find in regular shops, yet this cable is specifically constructed with I²S protocol in mind, which is great for my use case.
I’m definitely keeping the Supreme HDMI MKII in my chain for good and have no regrets in upgrading to something else. The source part of my chain is now good enough to make me feel like my whole chain is perfectly balanced.
In fact, knowing now how well the HDMI cable is constructed, I feel quite intrigued in exploring what kind of improvements the higher level Ricable power cables could do for my system (which I now finally consider resolving enough to hear the differences between different power cables).

Mentre esploravo come mettere a punto la mia catena esistente sia per gli altoparlanti che per le cuffie, ero abbastanza sicuro che la parte sorgente fosse il mio punto più debole. Dato che trasmetto audio ad alta risoluzione da Apple Music e non esistono letteralmente streamer Hi-Fi dedicati con servizio Apple Music nativo integrato, stavo semplicemente utilizzando Apple iPad Pro o iPhone per connettermi al mio DAC tramite cavo USB.
Questo andava ancora bene poiché considero il mio DAC di buona qualità, ma stavo comunque leggendo in diversi posti che, soprattutto nel mio caso, avrei potuto trarre grande beneficio dall’inclusione dell’interfaccia di conversione Digital-To-Digital da posizionare tra il mio iPad e il DAC. Si tratta principalmente di “pulire” l’input dall’iPad e convertirlo nel formato digitale I²S, che dovrebbe essere il miglior formato di input possibile per il DAC.
Quindi, quando finalmente ho fatto click e ho ordinato il DDC, è qui che è iniziata la mia ricerca di un cavo HDMI I²S dedicato. So che potrei usare letteralmente qualsiasi cavo HDMI standard disponibile per questo scopo e molti direbbero che questo è sufficiente (poiché si tratta solo di trasporto digitale, quindi funziona o no ma una terza opzione non è possibile). Tuttavia, non volevo ritrovarmi con un cavo HDMI generico nel mio sistema, considerando il fatto che ho già investito molto nei componenti del sistema autonomo. Allo stesso tempo, non ero disposto a pagare centinaia di euro per un cavo I²S dedicato. Era semplicemente troppo irreale per me per vedere alcuni vantaggi nel farlo.
Solo per caso ho trovato l’offerta Ricable. È stato brevemente menzionato da un appassionato italiano in un forum audio dedicato. È qui che ho iniziato a guardare in dettaglio l’offerta Ricable HDMI e poi ho subito confermato con il team di supporto Ricable che il Supreme HDMI MKII potrebbe essere proprio il cavo giusto per me.
e dell’estetica del prodotto?
Quindi ho ordinato il cavo Supreme HDMI MKII nella lunghezza di 1 metro (in caso di I²S più corto è meglio). Una volta arrivato, appena estratto dalla scatola, la qualità della costruzione del cavo era evidente. Questo non è sicuramente il normale cavo HDMI. Sembra solido, ma è anche abbastanza carino allo stesso tempo.
Anche se nessuno dei miei cavi è blu, questa variante blu scuro si fonde molto bene con il resto. È anche un cavo piuttosto spesso, quindi sono necessari alcuni requisiti di spazio, ma niente di eccessivamente esagerato. Se hai una distanza di 7-8 cm dal muro, starai benissimo. I connettori sembrano premium e nulla sul cavo dice che si romperà presto.
Dato che l’unità DDC era nuova per me, non è stato così facile valutare i vantaggi sonori del cavo, poiché non avevo a portata di mano nessun confronto diretto. Ma ho provato a collegare il DDC al DAC tramite il cavo HDMI generico standard (non esattamente economico però, è un cavo marchiato BenQ che dovrebbe essere di buona qualità) e ho la sensazione che la musica non fosse la stessa che con il HDMI supremo MKII. Ho riprodotto la mia solita playlist che utilizzo sempre quando valuto nuovi componenti nel mio sistema.
impressioni d’ascolto?
Le differenze erano sottili, ma per me ancora evidenti. Non me la sono sentita di preferire per eventuali brani di prova il cavo generico che conosco molto bene e che ho provato a confrontare qui. Ascolto principalmente blues, country rock e musica acustica con molta risoluzione su tutto lo spettro di frequenze.
Se dovessi scegliere un attributo dominante, allora soprattutto la voce è diventata più chiara e dettagliata con il Supreme MKII. Ma come già detto, non c’è stata area in cui il Supreme HDMI MKII ha funzionato peggio del cavo HDMI standard.
In più c’è un evidente vantaggio estetico per il Ricable HDMI. Considerando il prezzo del Supreme MKII, per me non c’è partita.
Le tue conclusioni.
Il Supreme HDMI MKII è un ottimo cavo HDMI se utilizzato come interconnessione digitale I²S. Non ho testato alcuna funzionalità video poiché non ne ho affatto bisogno. Ma per quanto riguarda il suono, non c’è niente che potrei obiettare su questo cavo. Anche la configurazione dei pin HDMI è quella prevista (dal produttore Denafrips) e la configurazione di accoppiamento tra Denafrips Iris 12th e Denafrips Pontus II è stata semplicissima (la modalità 0 è quella giusta da scegliere sul Pontus II).
Allo stato attuale, potrebbe anche costarti meno del solito cavo “4K HDMI” che troverai nei normali negozi, ma questo cavo è appositamente costruito pensando al protocollo I²S, il che è ottimo per il mio caso d’uso.
Terrò sicuramente il Supreme HDMI MKII nella mia catena per sempre e non ho rimpianti nel passare a qualcos’altro. La parte sorgente della mia catena ora è abbastanza buona da farmi sentire come se tutta la mia catena fosse perfettamente bilanciata.
Infatti, sapendo ora quanto bene è costruito il cavo HDMI, mi sento piuttosto incuriosito nell’esplorare che tipo di miglioramenti i cavi di alimentazione Ricable di livello superiore potrebbero apportare al mio sistema (che ora considero finalmente sufficientemente risolutivi da sentire le differenze tra i diversi cavi di alimentazione ).
